    The Green Score, explained

Three little leaves doing a lot of heavy lifting. Here's exactly how we score Australia's vegan venues — and how yours can climb.

    What the Green Score is

The Green Score is noomoo's at-a-glance sustainability rating for every venue in the directory. It runs from 0 to 3 leaves and tells diners how seriously a kitchen is taking the planet beyond the menu itself. Vegan is the starting line — the Green Score is what comes after.

It's not a certification, and it isn't pay-to-play. It's our own read on publicly stated practices, owner-submitted info, and the occasional friendly nudge from the noomoo community.

How we score the three leaves

Each leaf represents a separate pillar:

    Plant-based sourcing

Are ingredients local, seasonal, organic where possible? Do they prioritise Australian producers and minimise air-freighted goods? Bonus points for transparent supplier lists.

    Packaging

Takeaway containers, cutlery, cups and straws — are they compostable, reusable, or recyclable? Do they discount BYO cups? Plastic-free wins big here.

    Waste practices

Commercial composting, food-waste donation programmes, energy use, and how the kitchen handles end-of-day surplus. Tidy systems, fewer bins to landfill.

    What each leaf level means

0 leaves — Not yet scored

We haven't gathered enough info to score this venue. Owners can change that in minutes by claiming the listing.

    1 leaf — Getting started

Solid plant-based menu, with at least one sustainability practice in place. A good foundation.

2 leaves — Walking the talk

Visible commitment across two of the three pillars — typically thoughtful packaging plus active waste programmes.

3 leaves — Genuine sustainability leaders

Excellent across sourcing, packaging, and waste. These are the venues raising the bar for everyone else.
